Seeing the Light- City Centre Car Parking

Leeds City Centre on a Saturday? Parking? Oh dear. I have to guide you as best as I can, but the general advice is to park where you can and get yourself to the Town Hall to follow the instructions to the Church in Walk this Way.

That said, people coming to the reception at Weetwood Hall and anyone else who wants to be as near as possible to the Church should try to park at The Light. The Light is not the cheapest car park in the world, but it is near to the Town Hall and therefore St George's. People reading this blog in it is entirety will know that it appears as a waypoint for people walking from the Station. It is also a fantastic place for people to park if they then need to drive themselves and others to Weetwood Hall.

So, to get there. When approaching Leeds City Centre from any direction you will eventually join the Loop Road. This is a one-way funnel of traffic meant to make people's lives simpler. You can decide whether that is true for yourself or not.

On the Loop you will come past the Central (rail) Station, through City Square and intersect the financial district. Keep following the Loop signs. You will come out of a road infront of the Town Hall and pass down the right hand side. After this there is a right turn and you will pass St Anne's (Catholic) Cathedral. Immediately after this there is a little right hand turn signposted as The Light:

This is -as the picture shows- at Jongleurs comedy club. If you have missed it you may want to look for another car park; you will have to transverse the Loop again if you want another shot. There's no point shouting or crying, the St John's Centre Car Park is 200m down the road. To find your way to The Town Hall from wherever you park follow the signs. As a really obvious rule, the quicker you can park after passing the Town Hall the nearer to the Church you will be.

Kudos if you have made it to The Light and got parked. When you are leaving the Car Park you want to make your way into The Light itself at the Courtyard Level. As you arrive you will need to turn left to stay in the building and you will be presented with a view of restaurants in The Light and the road beyond:

The road through the large, arched glass doorway is the Headrow. And if you turn right out of the door you will see the Town Hall. Amble along past the Art Gallery and Library and find yourself infront of the Town Hall. Whoopee!

You now need to follow the directions as shown in Walk this Way.

P.S. The Light has created a map of how to get there that is pracitcally this rambly post in pictoral form. Also, for people with SatNav the Light's postcode is LS1 8TL. However, SatNav may not guide you into the correct entrance for the Light, make sure you check you are not breaking any traffic restrictions.
